KUALA LUMPUR, December 16, 2021 – Chairman of Koha Digital, Datuk Wira Mohd Hafarizam Harun on December 16, 2021 led an entourage to pay a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister of Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (“KKMM”), YB Datuk Zahidi bin Zainul Abidin at Seri Pacific Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Koha Digital is keen to explore collaboration opportunities in the field of digital legacy planning with the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia.
During the visit, both parties discussed potential collaborations in aspects of digital legacy planning. It has also come to the attention of the Deputy Minister that digital signature is not applicable in the transactions of power of attorney, the creation of wills, codicils and trusts as per the reference to the Electronic Commerce Act 2006 and the Digital Signature Act 1997. “Through this meeting with KKMM, we were able to have a good discussion on how Koha Digital can collaborate with KKMM in ensuring that legacy planning is accessible to everyone despite their age and religion. Since KKMM has also taken cognisance of the non-applicability of digital signature, we hope that they will amend this law in Parliament soon,” says Datuk Wira Mohd Hafarizam Harun, Chairman of Koha Digital.
Koha Digital’s strategic engagement with the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia is aimed at identifying and driving various collaborations to promote public awareness towards digitalisation of legacy planning. “Since KKMM is a ministry responsible for communications, multimedia, broadcasting, information, personal data protection, media industry and digital signature, we find it important for them to play a role in realizing the importance of proper legacy planning for the sake of the future generations of Malaysia. This could also help to lower the number of unclaimed assets in Malaysia which to date, has over RM90 billion worth of unclaimed assets, majority of which are held by the Malays”, continues Datuk Wira Mohd Hafarizam Harun.
