Who We Are

Paws Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) is a non-profit animal shelter in Petaling Jaya that has been in operation since 1987. We receive the surrender of unwanted dogs and cats which we will vaccinate, deworm, neuter/spay, and put up for adoption.

Currently, there are over 250 dogs and 250 cats under the care of the shelter. The shelter and all costs involved in running it are entirely funded by the generous donations of the public as well as proceeds from charitable events.

PAWS is a registered Society under the Registry of Societies of Malaysia that is led by an elected committee.

Mission

1. Prevent or suppress cruelty to animalsand act for the welfare of animals within the internationally recognised policy framework of the five freedoms for animals, being:

• freedom from hunger and thirst
• freedom from discomfort
• freedom from pain, injury or disease
• freedom to express normal animal behaviour
• freedom from fear and distress

2. Reduce the overpopulation of strays through neutering and rehoming
3. Encourage adoption of animals from shelters
4. Raise public awareness on responsible lifelong pet ownership
5. Provide a platform for animal lovers to give back to society

Vision

At PAWS, we believe that NGOs and members of the public can both play an active role in being a voice for the voiceless and uphold animal welfare together in five ways:

1. Adopt: from a shelter rather than buy from a pet store
2. Donate: to shelters whether in cash or in kind (a little goes a long way!)
3. Educate: family and friends on the importance of adopting, neutering and responsible lifelong pet ownership
4. Neuter: pets to prevent unnecessary breeding (there are many health benefits too!)
5. Volunteer: our time and effort for shelter animals

Donations to PAWS are tax-deductible under Subsection 44(6) of the Income Tax Act 1967. Please scan the bank-in receipt to pawshelter@gmail.com and provide the following details for us to issue an official tax-exemption receipt.
