Project Descriptions

Pertubuhan Kebajikan Sneham Malaysia (Sneham Malaysia) is a registered, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of suicide. It was established in 2018 with the mission of providing crisis intervention and emotional support to individuals who are feeling lonely, distressed, depressed, or suicidal. Sneham Malaysia operates a toll-free helpline that offers services in three languages: Bahasa, Tamil, and English. This helpline is accessible nationwide to all communities and age groups in the country, regardless of race, religion, gender, or ethnicity.

As a non-religious and non-political organization, Sneham Malaysia focuses solely on providing support and assistance to those in need. We rely on public donations and contributions to sustain our services. The Centre is staffed with trained volunteers who are committed to offering non-judgmental and empathetic listening. These volunteers respect the clients’ requests for anonymity and maintain strict confidentiality regarding all calls received. It is important to note that while Sneham Malaysia aims to provide Mental Health First Aid, our services do not replace the expertise and care provided by trained psychiatrists or psychologists.

Sneham Malaysia’s primary objective is to create a safe and supportive environment for individuals struggling with their mental health. By extending emotional support and crisis intervention, the organization strives to reduce the risk of suicide and promote well-being within the community. Through our dedicated volunteers and accessible helpline, Sneham Malaysia aims to make a positive impact on the lives of those in need. Sneham Malaysia actively engages in advocacy work to promote the importance of mental health and raise awareness of early warning signs of depression, suicide, and mental illness. This is done through various initiatives such as talks, campaigns, and workshops under their Outreach Program, which targets schools, colleges, and the community.

To fulfil our mission of preventing loss of lives to suicide, Sneham Malaysia has formed partnerships with government agencies, non-profit organizations, and private entities. These collaborations aim to create widespread awareness of mental health and reduce the stigma associated with mental illness. By fostering open communication and education, the organization hopes that individuals experiencing early warning signs will seek timely treatment and support.

Sneham Malaysia’s efforts have positively impacted the lives of thousands of people who reached out for support and received the help they needed. Each year, the organization allocates an average of RM 35,000 to RM 40,000 towards providing free mental health support services and conducting related activities. Financial support from the public is vital to ensure the continuity of these services and to accommodate the expansion of service hours.

By contributing to Sneham Malaysia, individuals and organizations can play a crucial role in supporting mental health initiatives, helping to save lives, and fostering a more compassionate and understanding society.
